The introduction of the PhishNotify plugin within Gmail is a valuable addition, serving as a powerful tool for enhancing our organization's email security. This feature allows users to seamlessly flag and report suspicious emails to the Malbon Center for Technology Security team, eliminating any potential risks associated with forwarding them.
Emails that appear to be phishing can be reported with one click of the PhishNotify+ button located in the side panel to the right of your email “Inbox” as shown in the screenshot.
If you do not see the side panel in your Inbox, click on the “Show side panel” arrow at the bottom right to expand.
Use the following steps to report a potential phishing email:
- Open the email from your Inbox, but DO NOT click on any links or download any attachments.
- Click the “PhishNotify+” button on the right.
The first time you use PhishNotify+ you will be prompted to accept the agreement. Check “Don’t show this message again” and Click “I Agree” to accept agreement.
- Click the “REPORT EMAIL” button.
- You should receive a confirmation pop-up that your email was submitted. The email will be moved to your TRASH.
- Click the “X” to close the window.
- You will also receive an email confirmation of your submission from The Malbon Center for Technology.
The PhishNotify+ report button is used to send suspicious emails to our security team to investigate potential cybersecurity threats. Please do not submit messages that are “Spam”.
