Importing a Test Pool

Pools are sets of questions that can be added to any Test or Survey. Pools are useful for storing questions and reusing them in more than one Test or Survey.

Create and Export from a Test Generator

  • Create your test and Export the test pool for Blackboard - 9x
  • Name your test and Save the file to an accessible location (do not unzip)

Import the Pool to Blackboard

Access the course you want to import the test pool

  • From “Course Tools” select "Tests, Surveys, and Pools", then click “Pools”

  • Select “Import Pool” or “Import QTI”, then Browse to the file location
  • Select the file to open and “Submit”

The IMS Global Learning Consortium established the Question and Test Interoperability (QTI) standard to support compatibility between questions and a course, regardless of the learning management system. Questions imported from a QTI package are supported in the Original Course View only.

Build the Test

Blackboard will confirm once the pool import is complete

  • Return to "Tests, Surveys, and Pools", then click “Tests”
  • From Tests, click “Build Test”

  • Name your test (required) and enter a description (optional), then click Submit

  • Click “Reuse Question” and select one of the following:
    1. image
    2. Create Question Set - Groups of questions that can be presented in a random fashion determined by the instructor.
    3. Create Random Block - A group of questions retrieved from a question pool. Questions are randomly retrieved from the selected question pool based on the question type and the number of questions available in the selected pool
    4. Find Questions - Questions are organized by the Criteria listed on the page. Use the Criteria drop-down lists to search for questions to add to the test.

For this example, select “Create Random Block” to copy selected questions:

  • Select your question Pools
  • Select your Question types, in this example, we selected “Multiple Choice”
  • Preview the questions, then click “Submit”

Blackboard confirms the Random block is saved, edit the number of questions to display and points:

  • Adjust the “Number of Questions to display”, then click “Submit”
  • Adjust the “Points per question”, then click “Submit”
  • Preview the questions, then click “OK”

Deploy the Test to a Content Area

  • Select the content area to add the test. For this example, we select “Exams/Quizzes”
  • Click “Assessments” and select “Test”
  • From “Add an Existing Test” select your test from the list, then click “Submit”

  • Name your test and adjust your “Test Availability” settings, then click “Submit”
